Document Description
The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has executed Lake and Streambed Alteration Agreement (EPIMS-SON-40238-R3), pursuant to Fish and Game Code section 1602, the project Applicant, Sonoma County Permit and Resource Management Department. The project is limited to the removal and replacement of the Geysers Road bridge over Fraiser Creek along the existing road alignment. The new single-span bridge will be a cast-in-place, reinforced concrete box girder bridge measuring approximately 32 feet wide and 80 feet long. The existing bridge is a two-span reinforced concrete slab bridge measuring approximately 40 feet long and 30 feet wide, supported on a reinforced concrete pier wall and tall reinforced concrete abutments. The abutments for the new bridge will be located further up the creek bank from the existing abutments, and outside of the active channel. The abutment supports will be 24-inch cast in drilled hole (CIDH) piles. Removal of the existing bridge will include removal of the existing concrete superstructure, pier wall, abutments, sacked concrete, slope protection (grouted rock) and their respective foundations from the creek channel to restore natural flow in the channel. New rock riprap will replace the existing grouted riprap in some locations. The project also includes the construction of an 18 foot wide and approximately 55 foot long temporary one-lane bridge upstream of the existing bridge to facilitate traffic during construction. The temporary bridge will require temporary reinforced concrete spread footings. The hillside where the temporary bridge will be constructed has a steep slope. In order to retain this hillside, a temporary shoring wall is required along the northwest side approximately 120 feet in length. After demolition of the existing bridge and construction of the new bridge is complete, the temporary bridge including the abutments and shoring walls will be removed and the adjacent hillside will be graded back to a stabilized slope. The project will require temporary dewatering of Fraiser Creek, with flow continuing through a temporary culvert and a temporary work pad constructed on top of the culvert. Temporary dewatering will result in approximately 95 linear feet of temporary impacts to aquatic habitat. The project will require the removal of five riparian trees. In total, the project will result in approximately 875 square feet of permanent impact to riparian habitat and approximately 9,100 square feet (0.2 acres) of temporary impact to riparian habitat.
