Document Description
The California Department of Transportation, using state funding proposes to implement a vegetation management project along State Route (SR) 89. The limits of work are comprised of four segments of SR 89 between Interstate 5 and the community of McCloud. The purpose of the project is to improve public safety by establishing defensible space along the highway. The project is needed to maximize traffic flow for all modes of transportation during emergency operations and manage roadside vegetation. Additionally, the project would improve line of sight for animal crossings and allow solar radiation to reduce ice and snow accumulation.

Caltrans has determined that the project is categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15301 (Existing Facilities) Class 1 (h) and has been determined to not have a significant effect on the environment and is not an expansion of use. The project is a native growth vegetation management project in an area of high fire severity zone and a wildland urban interface.
