Document Description
Sonoma County proposes to fund fuel reduction on 9.3 miles of Fort Ross Road. Fuel reduction work will encompass the removal or pruning of dead, dying, or hazardous trees along roads and around structures to provide defensible space and a wildfire calming zone around Fort Ross Road. The project grant also entails understory fuel reduction that will occur to reduce the volume of flammable vegetation in the project area. Vegetation and trees to be removed will be cut at grade, with stumps remaining in place. Heavy equipment will remain along the road prism, and no ground disturbing activities will occur Slash and debris will be disposed of onsite via mulching or lop and scatter.

The understory fuel reduction is a minor alteration to land that involves fuel management activities within 30 to 100 feet of structures.
