Document Description
UC Davis proposes to convert an existing dirt area on the Sacramento Campus to a temporary parking and storage area for construction contractors. A small dirt area adjacent to a parking lot on the east side of the Sacramento Campus and near the Ronald McDonald House would temporarily be converted to a graded lot to house equipment storage containers and vehicle parking. Site preparation would involve grading, putting down gravel, installing chain-link fence, and any landscape maintenance (weed removal & tree trimming).

Reasons for Exemption
The modification of a small dirt area to contractor parking and staging area qualifies as categorically exempt under the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Class 1 CEQA exemptions apply to the operation or minor alteration of existing public or private facilities, involving negligible or no expansion of an existing use. Class 3 exemptions apply to new construction of small facilities and Class 4 exemptions apply to the minor alterations of land. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
