Document Description
The project consists of the engineering, procurement and replacement of relay protection equipment for the IID Calexico substation banks 1 & 2 and IID Shadow Hills substation banks 1 & 2. Specifically, the project involves the replacement of ABB TPU 2000 relays, 2 per bank, with Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) SEL-487E transformer protection relays. The installation of modern bank protection relays will help reduce damage to equipment due to faster reaction and trip times. The implementation of these new relays will result in less damage and a safer environment in the substations

The project is exempt under Section 15302 (Class 2 exemption) for the reason that it entails the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced, this exemption includes but is not limited to the replacement or reconstruction of existing utility systems and/or facilities involving negligible or no expansion of capacity.
