Document Description
The Monterey County Department of Public Works, Facilities, & Parks (County) is proposing to construct an amphitheater with parking and concessions at the existing McCandless Group Area campground. The proposed Project would consist of the following improvements: installation of a standing/seating area to accommodate up to 3,000 people; installation of a 1,200 to 2,400-square-foot stage area; construction of a concessions stand; renovation of the existing restroom; installation of three large portable restroom trailers; provision of two crossings from the existing parking area and the proposed amphitheater site across new Pleyto Road to an existing walking trail; and provision of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-accessible parking spaces.

The proposed Project would include renovations to the existing restroom facilities at the Project site, including conversion of the existing showers to restrooms facilities (e.g., urinals, stalls, and ADA-stalls), which qualify as Class I, Existing Facilities. The Project would also include construction of limited new facilities such as a new amphitheater and appurtenant structures (e.g., concessions stand and three large portable restroom trailers), which constitute a Class III project, New Construction or Conversion of Small Structures.
