Document Description
Conduct geotechnical investigations in the location of a new proposed bridge over the Little River in Van Damme State Park to identify soil conditions and help guide future construction of the proposed bridge. Prior to commencement of drilling, plastic sheeting and straw wattles will be placed to contain cutting and fluid from entering Little River. Work will utilize a truck-mounted drill, equipped with 4-inch to 6-inch solid flight or hollow-stem augers to drill to groundwater depth and then change to mud rotary to drill two (2) exploratory borings (1 per site) up to 75 feet deep in the vicinity of the proposed bridge abutments. If bedrock is encountered, rock coring will be performed in a similar manner as mud rotary drilling methods. Solid auger cuttings will be contained in 55-gallon drums either during or immediately after drilling activities and mud rotary fluids and cuttings will be contained within a mud tank during drilling operations. After drilling completion, cuttings and drilling fluids will be pumped into 55-gallon drums for removal and disposal off-site. Boring holes will be back filled and capped.
