Document Description
CDFW's Cannabis Restoration Grant Program awarded WRTC a grant (Agreement #Q2191201) for the Barker Creek Roads Sediment Treatment (Project). Barker Creek is a tributary to Hayfork Creek, which is a tributary to South Fork Trinity River. The Barker Creek watershed contains approximately 166,700 linear feet (32 miles) of roads, not including private driveways. 65% of the roads (20 miles) are owned by the U.S. Forest Service while 32% of the roads (10 miles) are privately owned. The private roads are concentrated in the lower portion of the watershed (project area centroid: 40.5761, -123.1123 (WGS 84 datum)). The purpose of the Project is to reduce or eliminate hydrologic connectivity of the Barker Valley Road systems to Barker Creek and halt the worsening road-sourced sediment pollution. Road-sourced sediment loading in Barker Creek has been an ecological issue for over 30 years. This Project is Phase 1: Planning and will conduct a road inventory, develop 100% engineered design drawings and specifications for construction of treatments, complete CEQA, apply for regulatory permitting, develop a monitoring plan, and engage Barker Valley landowners to set the foundation for road treatment implementation to reduce the negative road-sediment impacts to Barker Creek.
