Document Description
This project proposes to install a High-tension Cable Barrier with Emergency Vehicle Passageways all within the Right-of-Way on State Route 99 from PM 0.38 to PM R12.73 in Merced County. Currently, there is an unpaved standard median along this six-lane freeway segment, with a three-beam barrier north of the segment, and a concrete barrier to the south of the segment. The purpose of the project is to reduce the number and severity of cross median collisions. A pattern of cross median collisions has been identified, due to out of control vehicles crossing the median and colliding with opposing vehicles. During a five-year period, 12 cross median collisions occurred between PM 0.38 and R12.73. Additionally, Emergency Passageways are needed within the median for emergency responders.
