Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to make improvements at the Interstate 5 (I-5) and State Route (SR) 32 interchange in the City of Orland between post miles (PM) R25.25 and R25.79. The proposed improvements would be made in response to the Clean California State Beautification Program of 2021 authorized under Assembly Bill 149. The Interstate 5 (I-5)/State Route 32 (SR 32) interchange is the gateway to the City of Orland. The slopes beneath the SR 32 overcrossing are currently unpaved and unsightly. The plant growth in the gore areas and ramp loops is patchy with numerous barren spots. Unpaved areas at the beginning and ends of the on- and off-ramps need continuous maintenance to control weeds and other volunteer vegetation. Currently, the interchange does not include any features that provide a cultural connection to the City of Orland. The purpose of the proposed project is to improve the appearance of this interchange and introduce aesthetic treatments that will enhance community identity as the queen bee capital of North America. The proposed project will also address ongoing safety issues for Caltrans maintenance forces performing weed control in unpaved areas.
