Document Description
Increase vegetative cover, remove redundant trails, and create a new and sustainable rock crawl trail in the 4x4 Area within Prairie City State Vehicular Recreation Area to reduce soil erosion and provide additional recreational opportunities. The project site spans approximately 8 acres containing trails and unvegetated areas. Work will:
• Use heavy equipment to install a new 1,858 feet long by 24 feet wide rock crawl trail containing rocks and boulders;
• Use heavy equipment to improve 250 feet by 20 feet of existing road surface to provide access to an existing restroom;
• Repair/install 3,716 feet of permanent fencing. Incorporate existing fencing where feasible;
• Use approximately 160 cubic yards of dredged soil from within the Park’s sediment basins as well as soil displaced by the installation of the new rock crawl trail to re-slope and supplement areas targeted for revegetation; and
• Hydroseed to revegetate a total of 4.14 acres with native seed and a high-performance flexible growth medium.
Project will avoid Waters of the U.S. and Waters of the State of California. Project construction will be conducted outside of the nesting bird season and during favorable weather conditions.
