Document Description
Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) is proposing to conduct tree removal/trimming activities within Caltrans’ right-of-way along both lanes of State Route 36 in Tehama County from post mile R25.4 to 27.9 as part of the company’s Wildfire and Safety Plan (WSP) and Community Wildfire Safety Program (CWSP). Ten trees would be removed and one tree would be pruned within Caltrans’ right-of-way. PG&E would also utilize Caltrans’ right-of-way to access tree removal/trimming activities outside Caltrans’ right-of-way (this work would include the removal of 8 trees and trimming of 5 trees). Work-generated debris smaller than approximately four inches in diameter would be chipped in areas with chipper accessibility. Cleared vegetation and woody debris (including chips) would be disposed of in a manner to ensure it does not enter surface water or a watercourse. The project would result in no ground disturbance. Traffic control would be provided while the performing the work.

The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with Section 15301 (Existing Facilities), Class 1 (Operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency’s determination), Subclass (h)—Maintenance of existing landscaping, native growth, and water supply reservoirs (excluding the use of pesticides, as defined in Section 12753, Division 7, Chapter 2, Food and Agricultural Code). The project would have no significant effect on the environment.
