Document Description
Firebaugh Canal Water District intends to use copper in compliance with the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit (CAG990005) to control algae and/or aquatic vegetation. Efficient irrigation conveyance is critical to the functions of the District. However, the District’s conveyances are prone to infestation by several floating and submersed aquatic weeds including pondweeds (sago, American, horned), Egeria densa, Elodea, water primrose, and planktonic and filamentous algae. The presence of these weeds and algae in District facilities can adversely impact water flow and reduce water capacity, prevent or greatly reduce delivery of irrigation water at turnouts, clog siphons and pumps, and block screens, thus preventing efficient delivery of irrigation water.
