The California Depart of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes to upgrade the existing curb ramps, sidewalks, and driveways to current American with disability (ADA) standards to improve mobility and accessibility for people with disabilities on State Route (SR) 33 from postmile R0.6 to 1.5 in the City of Dos Palos, and SR 140 from postmile 4.8 to 6.2 in the City of Gustine, Merced County. The project also proposes to widen the northeast corner at the intersection of SR 33 and SR 140 in the City of Gustine to meet Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA) turning maneuvers and to install flashing beacons and associated electrical at the school crosswalk between 6th Street and 7th Street on SR 140 in Gustine.
Project work would include work off the paved roadway, trenches, grading or other ground disturbance, drainage work or alterations, vegetation removal, and utility relocation. It is unknown if excess soil, tree removal, or night work is required.
The project will have thirty-two (32) temporary construction easements, with five (5) easements in the City of Dos Palos the rest within the City of Gustine. These easements are needed for sidewalk conformation, existing driveway conformation and fencing relocation for the flashing beacon pull boxes.
