Document Description
This project is proposed to permanently address the instability and potential roadway failure on the segment of U.S. 101 between post miles (PMs) 12.7 and 16.5 in Del Norte County. Two build alternatives (X and F) and a No-Build Alternative are evaluated in the draft EIR/EIS. Alternative X proposes reengineering the existing highway and would include retaining walls, underground drainage features, and realignments; work would be between PM 14.08 and 15.90. Alternative F proposes to bypass the landslide through construction of a 6,000-foot-long tunnel; an operations an maintenance center for the tunnel would also be constructed. Work would be between PMs 13.42 and 15.70. Both build alternatives would require geotechnical investigations.
