Document Description
The California Department of Transportation, would use state funds only to conduct maintenance on 13 bridges in Shasta and Tehama Counties on various state routes. The purpose of this project is to perform maintenance on 13 bridges to extend the useful life of the bridges. The project is needed because the 13 bridges in this project have experienced wear and damage because of traffic and the elements, thus shortening their expected life.

Reasons for Exemption
The California Department of Transportation has determined the project to be categorically exempt in accordance with section 15301 (Existing Facilities). Class 1 consists of the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of existing or former use. Caltrans has determined that the project would have negligible or no expansion of existing or former use, and would have no significant effect on the environment.
