Document Description
The project is limited to 9 encroachments (Table 1). Two encroachments are for water diversion from unnamed tributaries to Mattole River. Water is diverted for domestic use to service three houses and a bunkhouse for 14 full time residents. Work for the water diversion will include use and maintenance of the water diversion infrastructure. The 7 other proposed encroachments are to upgrade failing and undersized stream crossings. Work for these encroachments will include excavation, removal of the failing crossings, replacement with new properly sized crossings, backfilling and compaction of fill, and rock armoring as necessary to minimize erosion.

Reasons for Exemption
The project replaces existing stream crossings with new structures located on the same site as the stream crossings replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structures replaced. The project proposes to continue operation of existing domestic water diversions to four residences. There would be no significant adverse impact on endangered, threatened, or rare species or their habitat pursuant to §15065. There are no hazardous materials at or around the project site that may be disturbed or removed. The project will not result in impacts that are significant when viewed in connection with the effects of past projects, the effects of other current projects, and the effects of probable future projects.
