Document Description
DWR staff will use mechanical excavation and hand augers to investigate longitudinal cracks along the downstream embankment of the Clifton Court Forebay. Marker paint will be used to gauge trenching depths. A nuclear density probe will be used at the same locations. Grab samples will be taken off site for analysis. Water trucks will be used to mimic natural precipitation for analysis. Soil cuttings will be back filled into trenches by excavator. To the extent possible, staging will be on established roadways and improved lots. All work is within DWR right of way.

Reasons for Exemption
The State Water Project provides significant and important services to many Californians. This project is exempt because it involves data collection activities for a safe water supply. This project will not result in impacts to special status species or habitat. Because this activity can be implemented without any significant environmental impacts, the Categorical Exemption Class 6 will be used for CEQA compliance.
