Document Description
MeWater Foundation (MeWater) will provide 30 surf and ocean education camps to approximately 600 youth from low-income and trauma-impacted communities primarily from the City of San Francisco. Led by a team of mental health professionals and surfers, the project provides underserved and at-risk youth with access to their local beaches and coastal areas. In addition to surfing lessons, activities include a comprehensive water safety lesson, mindfulness practice and emotional health exercises, snacks, and volunteer-led discussions, which help program participants be present in the moment and channel their energy into positive experiences. The camp will include an overnight camping trip and participants will take a night hike in Muir Woods. This project is CEQA exempt, and the NOE is being filed by the State Coastal Conservancy, which is granting funds towards the project.
