Document Description
Install paved shoulders on the east and west sides of Santa Fe Way from Los Angeles Ave to Galpin St. The project will replace asphalt and existing earthen materials with approximately 8 feet of A/C pavement, as measured from the existing fog line, within the existing City of Shafter or County of Kern right-of-way. Work includes saw cutting along the fog line and removing existing pavement along the exterior edge of pavement, grading the shoulder, and installing new A/C.

Reasons for Exemption
The project involves the installation of up to 8 feet of paved shoulders along the exterior shoulders of an existing improved roadway. All work will occur within the existing City of Shafter or County of Kern right-of-way. The paved shoulders will reduce the generation of PM10 and improve public safety by providing a paved shoulder. There is no sensitive species habitat, no record of sensitive species, wetlands, or any historical structures within or adjacent to the project site. No existing trees near the project boundary will be affected or removed by the project.
