Document Description
This is a Caltrans Emergency Force Account project to repair a failed culvert. The 84” diameter and 135’ long culvert will be repaired with a HDPE slip liner. In addition, the project will fill voids with grout or slurry where applicable. Due to the proximity to the Elephant Seals viewing area, temporary fencing is required to protect mammals occupying the beach. The Purpose of the project is to repair an 84” culvert. The Project is Needed because the culvert no longer conveys water properly. The culvert’s steel bottom has rusted out, allowing water to escape and erode supporting backfill material, a nearby trail and the highway embankment. Highway 1 will be lost if the culvert is not repaired.
