Document Description
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) proposes replacing four (4) culverts along State Route (SR) 49 in Tuolumne County. The scope of work at Location 1, post mile (PM) R11.32, includes replacing the existing 12” Corrugated Metal Pipe (CMP) with a 24” Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP), reducing the length of the culvert at the inlet, placing a headwall at the inlet, and placing a 24” concrete Flared End Section (FES) at the outlet. The scope of work at Location 2, PM R11.58, includes replacing the existing 12” CMP with a 24” RCP, placing 24” concrete FESs at the inlet and outlet, and grading at the inlet. The scope of work at Location 3, PM 17.6, includes replacing the existing 12” CMP with an elliptical equivalent 24” RCP and replacing the inlet with a GDO-type inlet. The scope of work at Location 4, PM 25.1, includes replacing the existing 18” CMP with a 36” RCP and replenishing the Rock Slope Protection (RSP) at the outlet. All work will occur within Caltrans existing Right of Way. The purpose of this project is to rectify the damaged and failing culverts. The project is needed to extend the service life of SR-49 and ensure the safety of travelers across these drainages.
