The Puente Hills Preserve and surrounding areas are located in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones and communities at risk as designated by the state. Fuel reduction activities to minimize wildfire risk will occur in the urban wildland interface, adjacent properties, and along access routes and trails. Work includes hand clearing, disking, goat grazing, hazardous/dead/invasive tree removal, and invasive/non-native vegetation removal. If threatened or endangered species are found within these areas, appropriate protocols would be followed per technical guidance provided by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. If tree removal and invasive/non-native vegetation removal activities coincide with avian nesting season, appropriate avoidance and minimization measures will be implemented. The work occurs annually when funding is available.
