Document Description
The project is limited to removal of dead trees; removal of ruderal, non-native riparian vegetation; deep ripping, filling and leveling of the side channel of the relict stream, and deep ripping and recontouring of the main channel of the stream as a drainage swale to direct storm water and irrigation water run-off away from the property into drainage channel at the southern edge of the property. Once filled and levelled, the
side channel of the stream will be incorporated into the planned almond orchard and will be planted in almond trees.

Reasons for Exemption
The project consists of a minor alteration of a private land which does not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees. The stream channel within the project area is relict having been cut off at both the upstream and downstream ends of the project area. The vegetation present within the project area consisted of invasive non-native blackberries, and several dead, decaying trees. All lands immediately surrounding the stream banks was being farmed as winter wheat (an agricultural crop). The habitat value of the land, in its current condition, is negligible. The area surrounding the parcel with the stream channel is all zoned as orchard and is intensively managed for almonds.
