Document Description
LADWP plans to replace the existing production well W076 in Bairs-Georges Wellfield, located between Independence and Lone Pine, California. Well W076, drilled in 1925, was abandoned in the late 1990s due to casing and screen alignment issues. The capacity of the replacement well is expected to be approximately the same as that of the original well. The installation of the replacement well has been approved by the Inyo/LA Technical Group and the Inyo County Environmental Health Department has issued a permit for construction. Current industry standards for well drilling will be utilized and no site preparation or grading is needed. The vegetation monitoring site BG2 will control operation of W076R and the pumping will be managed to avoid potential impacts on flow in Reinhackle Spring, 1.5 miles southeast of W076R. The Technical Group will establish a monitoring program for the initial operation of W076R. Drilling fluid will be confined in settling tanks. Once the replacement well is installed, the existing well will be abandoned or converted to a monitoring well.
