Document Description
To perform four (4) 8-inch diameter and 80 feet deep exploratory borings within the levee easement using a truck-mounted drill rig. Two borings will be located on the levee crest and two borings will be located within 15 feet of the landside levee toe. The borings will be conducted using a hollow stem auger drill rig through the levee prism and blankets and then using a mud rotary drill rig 5 feet below the blanket layers and levee prism. After drilling all holes will be grouted from the bottom of the hole to within 1 foot of the ground surface using the tremie method using a grout mixture of six to eight gallons of water per sack of Portland cement.

One boring (B-1) is located on the crest of Unit 3, Bear River north levee. Among the other three borings, one boring (B-8) is located on the crest of the Yuba River south levee, and two (B-6 and B-7) are located within 15 feet of the landside toe of Unit 7, Yuba River south levee, Yuba County.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 6, Information Collection categorical exemption (CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15306), because the activity consists of basic data collection, research, experimental management, and resource evaluation activities which do not result in a serious or major disturbance to an environmental resource. These may be strictly for information gathering purposes, or as part of a study leading to an action which a public agency has not yet approved, adopted, or funded. In addition, the project is exempt from CEQA under the Class 4, Minor Alterations to Land categorical exemption (CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15304), because the activity consists of minor public or private alterations in the condition of land, water, and/or vegetation which do not involve removal of mature, scenic trees except for forestry and agricultural purposes. Further, none of the exceptions to the exemption in CEQA California Code of Regulations, Title 14, Section 15300.2 apply.
