Document Description
This project will restore the retired Stoneman raft launch riverbank site to natural conditions as called for in the Merced River Comprehensive Wild and Scenic River Management Plan. This site was once a commercial raft launch site in Yosemite Valley with associated loss of vegetation, channel widening and eroding banks. It is now closed. In addition, the site is directly downstream of Stoneman Bridge, an undersized stone arch bridge that contributes to bank erosion at the site during high flows. Studies have shown that the Merced River in this location has unnaturally widened by about 30 percent since 1919.
