Document Description
The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) proposes to place land into federal trust for the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians (Tribe). The land, known as the Volks Property site and currently owned in fee by the Tribe, consists of approximately 0.51 acres in Santa Barbara County, California. The proposed trust land would enable the Tribe to provide additional parking to adequately serve the neighboring project, the Chumash Museum and Cultural Center, and thereby allow the project to operate efficiently. The Tribe proposes to demolish the existing structure on the site and develop that site into a parking lot. Additional supporting infrastructure is also planned including ADA-compliant curb, gutter, and sidewalk improvements.
