Document Description
The Montecito Water District (District or MWD) serves water to the communities of Montecito, Summerland, and portions of Toro Canyon in Santa Barbara County. The District owns and operates nine water storage reservoirs throughout its service area. The existing water storage reservoirs do not strictly comply with current seismic design codes and regulations, and may be subject to failure in the event of a large earthquake. The Reservoir Retrofit and Replacement Project involves seismic retrofits, repairs, and replacements at eight of the District’s nine existing water storage reservoirs: Doulton (155-020-007; 1075 Toro Canyon Road), Romero (007-080-006; intersection of Bella Vista Drive and Romero Canyon Road), Terminal (013-040-002; intersection of East Mountain Drive and Cold Springs Road), Bella Vista (155-030-042; 2750 Bella Vista Drive), Park Lane (007-050-013; intersection of Park Hill Lane and East Mountain Drive), Cold Springs (013-040-005; intersection of East Mountain Drive and Cold Springs Road), Hot Springs (011-030-024; intersection of Hot Springs Road and Hot Springs Lane), and Buena Vista (007-020-018; 915 Park Lane). The ninth reservoir, Toro Canyon, has been excluded because it is likely to be decommissioned by the District in the near future. The project would bring all eight reservoirs into compliance with seismic design codes and regulations. No retrofit or replacement would expand the water storage capacity of an existing reservoir. Addendum No. 1 includes minor project design changes to six of the reservoirs included in the Original Project, which resulted in minor changes to the project boundaries, depth of disturbance, and concrete and haul truck trips during construction.
