Document Description
This project will allow the CAL FIRE Nevada Yuba Placer Unit (NEU) to work with the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR), Central California Area Office, to develop a cooperative burning project on Bureau of Reclamation Lands. The project area is located along the North Fork and Middle Fork of the American River below Auburn to Colfax CA, and consist of approximately 9 acres with approximately 200 pre-built piles. The area to be treated is surrounded by state responsibly area receiving direct protection from CAL FIRE.

Reasons for Exemption
The California Environmental Quality Act does not apply to prescribed fire, thinning, or fuel reduction projects undertaken on federal lands to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire that have been reviewed under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) if the primary role of a state or local agency is providing funding or staffing for those projects. All the NEU Bureau of Reclamation Cooperative Burn Project activities are included in the Categorical Exclusion document prepared by the Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Department of the Interior. Categorical Exclusion Checklist, Auburn Shaded Fuel Break - CCAO-CEC-19-10 signed in 2019.
