Document Description
The Eureka Shoulders project is located on US Route 101 (Broadway) in the City of Eureka, between the South Bayshore Mall entrance and Henderson Street. The project proposes to increase shoulder width at three locations to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. The first location includes approximately 400 feet of northbound shoulder located across from the Bayshore Mall. The goal at this location is to regain the original paved width of the shoulder, and an additional 1.3 feet, by removing the dike and placing the new dike at the edge of the shoulder. The second location includes approximately 125 feet of the northbound shoulder of Broadway across from Taco Bell. The goal at this location is to keep the hillside material out of the shoulder by placing a dike at the edge of the paved shoulder. The final location is on the southbound shoulder of the right turn pocket at the south Bayshore Mall entrance. The goal at this location is to create a consistent shoulder width for bicyclists’ safety by restriping the turn pocket parallel to the sidewalk.
