Bohemian Highway Bridge over Russian River Replacement

The Sonoma County Department of Transportation and Public Works propose to replace the existing Monte Rio Bridge over the Russian River in the community of Monte Rio, on Bohemian Highway, in western Sonoma County. The existing bridge was constructed in 1934; The bridge was previously determined not eligible for the Nation Register of Historic Places, however the structure was designated locally as a County Landmark in 2003. The new bridge, a steel-tied steel arch, will cross the Russian River downstream of the existing bridge. As new bridge approaches will be required for the new bridge location, a new intersection will be constructed on the south side of the bridge, connecting Main Street, as does the current bridge, but in a more southerly location. The existing bridge will remain in place during construction and be demolished once the new bridge is opened.
