Document Description
The existing sewer pipeline and manholes surrounding the Nevada Avenue and Bodger Street area were constructed in 1925. The City has identified approximately 1 mile of existing pipeline that is reaching the end of its useful life and needs replacement. The old and deteriorated sewer main and manholes are currently located in easements through private properties and are difficult for the City to properly access and maintain. This increases the risk of blockages in the system and sewer spills in this area. As part of this project, the City is planning to: • Replace approximately 1 mile of existing 8-inch diameter sewer pipe and manholes with new facilities in public streets to improve access for future maintenance • Abandon the existing pipelines located in easements through private properties • Construct new sewer laterals to each property affected by this project for connection to the new sewer system • Upgrade the sewer system with new materials that are far more resistant to deterioration, breaks, and blockages • Bring the existing sewer system up to current standards, improve system reliability and reduce maintenance needs and costs Project Phasing and Schedule: Construction will involve approximately 1.2 acres of disturbed surface: There will be a total of 5,500 cubic yards of excavation. The project will be phased in a sequential and linear manner with each segment consisting of approximately 100 to 500 linear feet of new gravity sewer main installed each day between connection points. The project is estimated to take a total of 12-16 months to complete and will be implemented to avoid conflicts with the operations of school and community facilities which are adjacent to the project and in the project vicinity. The anticipated start date for construction is June 2021/June 2022.
