Document Description
DWR shall perform exploration drilling at 12 locations near Banks Pumping Plant (BPP) and Bethany Reservoir (BR) for subsurface sampling. Boreholes greater than five feet and dry exploration holes will be backfilled with a cement-bentonite mixture. If groundwater is encountered the boring will be backfilled from the bottom-up. Any borings five feet deep or less will be backfilled with drill cuttings. Waste generated from drilling activities will be contained and placed in drums for disposal at an approved waste facility. Large staging areas will be at the BPP and the BR parking lots. All work is within DWR right of way.

Reasons for Exemption
The State Water Project provides significant and important services to many Californians. This project is exempt because it involves data collection activities for a safe water supply. This project will not result in impacts to special status species or habitat. Because this activity can be implemented without any significant environmental impacts, the Categorical Exemption Class 6 will be used for CEQA compliance.
