Document Description
The geotechnical explorations will help determine the geological characteristics of the State Water Project (SWP) facilities at these locations and the information will ensure the security designs have adequate foundations. The California Aqueduct is the major conveyor of water for the SWP and is vital for delivering water to millions of California residents. This work will help ensure continued safe and reliable water delivery to SWP Contractors. Geotechnical exploration at DAPP and SLFD will consist of making about 4 hollow stem auger (HSA) drill holes. One exploratory drill site is located at the DAPP gate at California Aqueduct milepost 86.73 leftside, another drill site is located adjacent to the SLFD security gate, and two drill sites are in the SLFD O&M Center. The depths of these drill hole will range from 10 to 50 feet. Some material from the HSA drill holes will be collected for testing, and material not needed for testing will be spread at the storage yard. A tremie will be used to fill the HSA exploration holes to near the surface with cement bentonite grout, then each hole will be capped with about a foot of soil.
