- The project encompasses the installation of roof-mounted, balasted solar photovoltaic arrays on seven (7) campus buildings including Cain Library (#202), Welch Hall (#23), Social and Behavioral Sciences (#30), LaCorte Hall (#40), Center for Science and Innovation (#51), Gymnasium (#60), and Central Plant (#87). The seven rooftop solar arrays will connect to the campus's main switchgear and the SCE 16kV sub-station on campus. The project is undertaken as part of a power purchase agreement in partnership with REC Solar Commercial Corporation, which is responsible for its design, construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance and will sell power to the University at a n agreed-upon rate. The agreement term is 20 years.

- The project is statutorily exempt from CEQA, as it meets all requirements of the exemption and does not include a substation (PRC §21080.35[b][2]) or transmission or distribution facilities; is located on the same parcel of the buildings to be served (PRC §21080.35[c][1]); does not occupy more than 500 square feet of ground surface (PRC §21080.35[c][2]); does not occupy an area that contains plants protected by the Native Plant Protection Act; does not require an individual permit pursuant to the federal Clean Water Act, waste discharge requirements pursuant to the California Porter-Cologne Water Quality Control Act, an individual take permit for species protected under the federal Endangered Species Act or the California Endangered Species Act, and/or a streambed alteration permit pursuant to California Fish and Game Code (PRC §21080.35[d]); and, since the project involves rooftop installation and not existing parking lots, does not remove a tree required to be planted, maintained, or protected pursuant to local, state, or federal requirements, no does it affect a native tree over 25 years old (PRC §21080.35[e]).
