Document Description
The proposed project will provide seismic improvements to Powell Library that will improve the Seismic Performance Rating (SPR) of the main library building (approximately 120,000 GSF) from SPR V to a minimum SPR IV. The seismic scope of work includes strengthening of the roof support structure, floor slabs, columns, and walls. The project scope will also include code, accessibility, and fire life safety improvements triggered by the seismic work in the main library. As resources allow, accessibility and fire and life safety upgrades will be continued into the East Wing.

Reasons for Exemption
The project is exempt because it consists of interior alterations to an existing facility with no expansion of use. Due to the historic significance of the building, all improvements will be completed in conformance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Resources, under the oversight of a qualified historic architect and/or preservation consultant. No other exceptions to a Categorical Exemption per CEQA Section 15300.2 apply.
