Document Description
The SJFD vegetation control program is an annual/routine maintenance program that the field division performs to control growth of unwanted vegetation along the aqueduct roads, structures, and buildings. The SJFD vegetation control program is critical in meeting aqueduct visibility, accessibility, and drainage requirements, as well as to protect the structural integrity of aqueduct embankments and structures. To control vegetation, herbicides are sprayed along aqueduct roads, fence-lines, bar/v ditches. Plant debris is then removed and burned at designated burn sites located along the aqueduct's 5:1 slope, paved/gravel areas on access roads, within clear staging areas near pumping plants facilities, and spoil sites. The vegetation control program extends, on both sides of the aqueduct, from MP 172.58 to MP 293.45 of the State Water Project and from MP 0.00 to MP 14.84 of the Coastal Branch. Spraying may also occur in areas within and around pumping plants and other structures located within the DWR right-of- way.
