- The Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) will relocate the existing L-4 pump station at the Coachella Canal approximately 100-yards upstream on the Coachella Canal, at the existing site where portions of the Phase I features are now located. Phase I of the L-4 Pump Station Relocation Project included constructing the wet well structures within the Coachella Canal at the relocated project site. The existing L-4 pump station was originally constructed in the 1950's and the infrastructure has fulfilled its useful service life.

- State CEQA Guidelines §15301 (Existing Facilities) allows for the operation, repair, maintenance, permitting, leasing, licensing, or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities, mechanical equipment, or topographical features, involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond that existing at the time of the lead agency's determination. The project will provide minor alterations and improvements to the existing Coachella Canal, and does not include a significant expansion of use or capacity of the Coachella Canal. Additionally, this project is exempt from CEQA under State CEQA Guidelines §15303 (New Construction Or Conversion Of Small Structures) which allows for the construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities or structures; installation of small new equipment and facilities in small structures; and the conversion of existing small structures from one use to another where only minor modifications are made in the exterior of the structure. The project involves the construction and relocation of limited infrastructure to the Coachella Canal.
