- Document Description
- This project will replace the failing road surface asphalt on the Borrego Palm Canyon Campground and Day Use Area access road from Palm Canyon Drive to the entrance kiosk. The project work will be completed in 4 approximately equal phases. Phases 1 and 2 are funded for initial completion. (Phases 3 and 4 will be completed in the future). The total project consists of grinding 128,700 square feet of existing asphalt 2” to 4” deep. The ground asphalt will be fine graded and compacted for reuse as a sub-base for the new asphalt. The grinding process will not exceed 1” in depth of ground disturbance beneath the existing asphalt. Two feet out on each side of the road, 4,998 square feet of 2” thick road base aggregate will be added for road edge protection. The heavy equipment operator will level that area to the height of the new road surface.
