Document Description
The project consists of replacing damaged hardscape and pathways impacted by soil settling in the courtyard at Kemper Hall. The project will involve demolishing hardscape (sidewalks, entry plaza and courtyard) to access settled areas, backfill and re-compact soil in effected areas, and replace hardscape. Soil will be excavated to a depth of five feet in impacted areas. In addition, the project will inspect and repair water proofing and utility penetrations into the basement, make drainage improvements to the courtyard, realign pathways, add bicycle parking, and make electrical and telecommunications improvements. This project qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1 of the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This project will make repairs to an existing facility and will not expand use.

This project qualifies as categorically exempt under Exemption Class 1 of the Guidelines for the Implementation to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This project will make repairs to an existing facility and will not expand use. This exemption applies to the operation, repair, maintenance or minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or mechanical equipment, involving negligible or no expansion of the existing use. In addition, none of the exceptions for application of a categorical exemption apply to this project.
