Document Description
Caltrans proposes to construct a soldier pile wall, construct a 4-foot minimum shoulder and install erosion control on State Route 1 in Monterey County, 1 mile south of Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge. The purpose of this project is to permanently repair the failing embankment slope below the roadway to ensure the public access and reliability of SR 1 at PM44.45. This project is needed due to the winter storms
of 2016-2017 that eroded the southbound roadway embankment slope and caused failure of approximately 90-feet of the SR 1 roadway embankment and shoulder. Furthermore, permanent roadway restoration is needed due to the potential for future rain events that may further degrade the embankment slope and undermine the functional use of the southbound travel lane. Temporary construction easements and utility relocation of a privately-owned water line will be necessary.
