Document Description
The Unit 2 steam turbine-generator is located on the top floor of the El Centro Generating Station building and currently does not have fire protection to eliminate a potential lubricating oil fire. Unit 2 STG is a critical source of energy for the IID resource portfolio. llD property insurance underwriters have identified as a worst case scenario a building fire caused by the ignition of lubricating oil in the Unit 2 steam turbine-generator, potentially incurring in extensive damage to the turbine-generator, adjacent equipment and the ECGS building itself, resulting in substantial replacement costs. Consequently, with the goal of maximizing the long-term reliability of the Unit 2 STG, a fire suppression system with automatic fire detection activation will be installed. The automatic sprinkler system will discharge sufficient water to protect the building, equipment and eliminate long outages required to repair or replace damage caused by the fire, ensuring generation continuity at the ECGS.
