Document Description
Establish defensible space around Department structures at Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park, consistent with the Department's 2009 "Guidelines for the Protection of Structures from Wildland Fire", where an over-accumulation of native and non-native vegetation of various age classes and dead and downed material have created excessive fuel loading. Vegetation modification activities will target all DPR structures, including historical buildings, the visitor center and museum, park residences, maintenance facilities, fuel tanks, and other appurtenant structures. Vegetation modification and fuel reduction will also target infestations of invasive trees along corridors that could carry wildfire, such as around the old mill site and parking lot on Main Street (Highway 49). Vegetation modification will occur within 130 feet of structures, in accordance with the Department's 2009 "Guidelines for the Protection of Structures from Wildland Fire."
