Document Description
The Project will replace the covered bridge that was destroyed by the Camp Fire. The destroyed historic bridge was a 3-span (29' - 128' - 80') covered Pratt truss totaling 237 feet in length. The superstructure was supported on concrete piers cast in circular steel plate casings and stacked rock abutments, all founded on minimal footings. The existing top chords, floor beams, and flooring framing system were composed of solid sawn timbers. The bottom chords, diagonals, and vertical hanger were steel or iron rod and eye bars. Portions of the floor stringers and floor beams had been supplemented with steel girder and channels as retrofit to increase load carrying capacity. The shortest approach span was also being supplemented by a timber support bent. Various repairs had been performed to members in the 80-foot span to repair damage from a vehicle impact. The covered housing was composed of vertical timber siding and corrugated metal sheet roofing over purlins and conventional framing. Iron rods were also used for lateral racking bracing between the bottom chords. Truss connections were made with fabricated steel brackets, plates, and heavy-duty hardware including headed bolts and nuts. The new bridge will be reconstructed using similar materials and construction details to the maximum extent possible to the previous bridge
