Document Description
Build a composting site in the historic Sonoma Developmental Center (SDC) orchard in Jack London State Historic Park to recycle green waste material generated through park maintenance activities. Work will:
• Clear an area approximately 100’ by 60’ in a naturally screened location within the interior of the orchard landscape;
• Install a lockable storage bin for tools and testing equipment;
• Construct a short access road from Orchard Trail to the compost site, 8’ wide and approximately 60’ long, surfaced with compacted red road base;
• In the initial phase of the project, create and manage active compost piles as open piles in the cleared site; and
• As funding becomes available in the future, construct an open bay system to manage the piles in, consisting of a concrete pad and concrete masonry walls (CMU) measuring 10’ by 50’ by 6” thick, with a 12” by 12” footing around the edge and CMU walls separating the pad into five bays approximately 10’ by 10’.
