Document Description
Conduct road maintenance activities in Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park and Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park (Redwood National and State Parks) to protect resources, correct poor drainage, maintain the transportation infrastructure, and maintain access to front country and backcountry areas within the park units. Within each of the three (3) State Parks work will include: • Drainage structure improvements (prior to reconstruction, replacement, or removal, an on-site evaluation will be made by qualified staff to determine whether the previous structure was appropriate for the site or if another conveyance structure would function better. No more than two (2) drainage structures per kilometer of stream length will be routinely reconstructed or replaced per year unless condition thresholds are exceeded. If a drainage structure exhibits signs of imminent failure it may be treated regardless of proximity to other recently reconstructed drainage structures.); • Road brushing (removal of vegetation from the roadbed, drainage ditch, cutslope, and fillslope); • Road grading (smooth out a roadbed to provide a suitable driving surface that is uniform and drains evenly to reduce accumulation and concentration of runoff that causes erosion), realignment (where feasible) and road surface shaping and rocking; and • The clearing and/or reconstruction of drainage ditches as needed.
