Gas Technology Institute has partnered with Wilson Engineering Technologies, Del Real Foods (one of the largest Mexican food processors in CA), and advanced chiller manufactures to develop and test a novel heat recovery system which includes a booster ejector enhanced refrigeration system utilizing industrial process waste heat and adopting staff's determination that this action is exempt from CEQA. The technology has the potential to reduce electrical and natural gas consumption of the food processing industry by 20 percent.

Reasons for Exemption
Agreement will not cause direct physical change in the environment or a reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment because it falls under categorical exemption 15301(a) existing Facilities since it is an interior alteration to plumbing and electrical systems. The project involves implementing chiller and ejector technologies in an existing food processing plant and associated measurement and verification (Exemption 15306). Permitting for the project will involve a construction permit from a local authority having jurisdiction, which will be secured by the participating food processing plant. Permitting is to be determined.
