Reasons for Exemption
The Ordinance is covered by the general rule that CEQA applies only to projects which have the potential for causing a significant effect on the environment. The Ordinance will protect and enhance the environment and SANTA CRUZ’S natural resources by prohibiting natural gas infrastructure and requiring new buildings use electric fuel only (with limited exceptions) in order to [1] Reduce greenhouse gas emissions, [2] improve indoor air quality and [3] increase public safety by reducing the potential for natural gas leaks along the supply chain.
