Document Description
Project will replace an existing galvanized pipe swing gate at the entrance to Fremont Peak Observatory in Fremont Peak State Park with a custom-designed steel gate to secure the maintenance yard and residence areas and welcome visitors to the observatory. Work will:
• Remove existing galvanized pipe swing gate;
• Use hand tools or a gas auger to excavate four (4) 18" wide x 36" deep holes and feather excavated material into surrounding area;
• Install four (4) 4" x 4" steel posts in concrete; and
• Install the new approximately 16' 3" wide by 7' 2" tall arched gate, flanked on one side by a 5' 8" tall by 2' 6 ¾" wide person gate and a 5'8" tall by 2' 10 ¼" stationary panel on the other side.

Reasons for Exemption
Project consists of the operation, maintenance and minor alteration of existing public or private structures, facilities or topographical features involving negligible or no expansion of use beyond current levels; the replacement or reconstruction of existing structures and facilities where the new structure will be located on the same site as the structure replaced and will have substantially the same purpose and capacity as the structure replaced; construction and location of limited numbers of new, small facilities or structures included as "fencing and gates" in the Department of Parks and Recreation's list of exempt activities in accordance with CCR §15300.54; and the minor public or private alterations in the condition of land and/or vegetation which do not involve the removal of healthy, mature, scenic trees.
